Regulars at Rebellion Festival will be more than familar with East Kilbride Punk n' Rollers 2Sevens. They seem to be on 24 hours a day at various fringe venues.
Their new EP doesn't break any musical boundaries, but were you expecting that from a band whose name references 1977. That is not a criticism, they know what they want to play, and they play it well.
The opener, and title track, Shut Down the World, is a classic slice of punk full of 50's backing vocals. It is folowed by Black Leather which has a much darker guitar tone. Almost veering on a NOWBH sound, it is not as much of an earworm.
It is with third track where things get really interesting, Inst-Ru-Mental starts with what can only be described as A Forest era Cure-esque atmospherics with a bass and piano combo that leads into the '77 sound guitar that fans of 2Sevens will be familar with.
The EP is rounded off with a DPC Remix of Black Leather. While it is not the most inventive remix, alongside Inst-Ru-Mental it may hint at a more experimental future for 2Sevens.
